Getting to know what are tryglycerides

2 January, 2012 (14:55) | General | By: admin

Fats are very important in our body because when they are oxidized, they provide a source of energy to our bodies. There are different kinds of fats that are present in our bodies. Triglycerides are one of them. But what are triglycerides? They are a type of body fats that are used to provide energy. They are present in vegetable fats as well as in animal fats. Their presence in the bodies of human beings is a way of storing them when they are in excess. When fats and carbohydrates are above a certain limit that is required by the body, they are stored in various parts of the body as triglycerides to wait for such a time when the body will need them. If the level of  continue rising over time, then the body suffers a danger of potential diseases of the heart, diabetes and stroke.
It is therefore important that one considers checking the levels of triglycerides in their bodies. It is important that one understands the factors which increase triglycerides levels so that they can be able to manage their levels. Various factors and medications have been found to contribute greatly to the increased levels of triglycerides. Among these factors is obesity. People suffering from obesity happen to have very high levels of triglycerides. Uncontrolled eating of calories than you can burn, certain instances of diabetes, high consumption of alcohol, hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid glands, and kidney diseases. Some of the medications that cause triglycerides include birth control pills, diuretics, steroids, beta-blockers etc.
It happens that all the carbohydrates and fats that we eat are converted into triglycerides. Triglycerides molecules are joined together and then they are absorbed into the blood stream where they are transported into the liver. The liver works on them packaging them into very low density lipoprotein which is a type of protein. These very low density lipoproteins are then transported to various parts of the body that needs them. Taking excess of fatty food and carbohydrates means there will be a large amount of triglycerides. The body can only utilize a certain amount of triglycerides and therefore excess of them is stored in adipose tissues for a later use to produce energy in times of their deficiency.
Triglycerides serve a very important role in the transport of transport of fats and also in the production of energy. They form a crucial part in the formation of very low density lipoproteins. They produce much more energy than proteins and carbohydrates. These very low density lipoproteins are transported back to the intestines where they meet bile juice and lipase. They are then broken down to form free fatty acids and an element of monoacylglycerol. A rebuilding process takes place whereby the fragments of triglycerides are combined together with molecules of protein and cholesterol to form a compound called chymicrons. This compound is collected by the lymphatic system where it is transported to the heart where it is mixed with blood. In the blood, chymicrons is transported to various tissues where triglycerides may be released to produce energy. Chymicrons is broken down by hormone lipase with the help of hormone glucagon, to releases energy which is needed by the body. Liver and fat cells produce and store triglycerides.
It is important that everyone ensures that he has the correct amount of triglycerides. This can be done through a process of checking good or bad triglycerides levels in the body. This process is called the lipid panel. It is similar to the one conducted while checking for cholesterol levels in the body. If one finds that his triglycerides levels are more than the normal levels, then he should embrace a weight reduction system rather than embarking on drugs. He should ensure that he is able to burn extra fats to maintain good health. He should continue taking the tests regularly until he achieves the normal levels. On the other hand, if one finds that his triglycerides levels are within normal ranges, he should continues living a healthy life and repeat the lipid panel every five years. It is important to note that before you take the lipid panel, you should ensure twelve hours of no eating. This helps to ensure that the amount of triglycerides recorded is in the body and not as a result of having taken a meal.
